A Big Texas Thank You To Th’ Fort Worth Star Telegram!

Part of a page from the Sunday Comics section I was reading in the Star Telegram while waiting in the Dallas Love Field Airport.

I’ve been a professional cartoonist for many years now and I still get a kick out of visiting a city for the first time and seeing my comic strip in their local newspaper.  It always makes me smile!  Whenever we travel, my wife will tell you that I stop and pick up newspapers along the way and check out their comics section looking for Snuffy.  I know that wherever I go I can always read Snuffy online, but there’s still something special to me about seeing my comic strip in the newspaper–and there always will be.  So, needless to say, just recently on quick trip to the Dallas, TX area for the first time, I bought a newspaper to read in the airport while waiting for my flight.  I was so happy to open the Sunday Comics section of the Fort Worth Star Telegram and see my ol’ pal Snuffy looking back at me!  They say everything’s bigger in Texas and when I saw Snuffy in their comics section, my smile sure was!  Thank you, Fort Worth Star Telegram!

  1. I’m not surprised that the newspaper in Texas has the Snuffy Smith strip. I use to live Texas from 1999-2003 during my kid and teen years, and I saw Snuffy in the funnies section. I got a kick out of it daily! Yeah, I saw both yours and Fred Lasswell’s strip at the time, sir. And rereading them in the Comics Kingdom archives a couple years ago gave me the same excitement as an adult as it did when I was a kid. I’m so thrilled to see the Snuffy Smith strip still up, and running to this very day. Thanks to you Mr. Rose. Please, don’t stop anytime soon. I grew up in New York, and I never saw Snuffy in their local newspapers. Now I live New Jersey, and he’s not featured in the newspaper here either. Thank God for online comics! I really hope Snuffy is featured in your hometown in Virginia Mr Rose. Always enjoyed Snuffy! Keep up the bodacious work, John! Did you also happen to see The Amazing Spider-man strip in the local Dallas newspaper as well? I remember reading and discovering the Spider-man strip there as well. I always couldn’t wait for the next newspaper to see what happened next in the Spider-man strip.

    • Bodacious thanks for your kind remarks, Cameron! I truly appreciate it! Thank you for being such a dedicated fan and reading Snuffy since you were a child! I’m thankful Snuffy is featured in my hometown newspaper in Virginia, but I’m sorry he’s not in your paper in New Jersey. But thank you so much for reading Snuffy daily online! I enjoy the Spider-Man comic strip, too, and read it daily at ComicsKingdom.com. Thank you again for your wonderful comment! Thank you for being a life-long comics reader!
