Snuffy Visits Th’ Sunshine State!

As I sit watching another big snowstorm here in Virginia, I thought it was the perfect time to announce that Snuffy and I are heading for warmer temperatures very soon!  I will be doing a series of Snuffy Smith Chalk Talks, Children’s Cartooning Workshops and bodacious book signings in the state of Florida to promote the release of my new book, The Bodacious Best of Snuffy Smith. I will be in both The Villages, Florida and Palm Coast, Florida later this month.  In my chalk talks, I talk about my career as the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith cartoonist, shows samples of my work and draw some of the comic strip’s most popular characters for the audience.  In the children’s cartooning workshops, I show the children how to draw lots of fun cartoon characters including some from the Barney Google and Snuffy Smith comic strip.

I enjoy inking my work.  While inking I usually listen to podcasts or the radio.  I also “watch” (but really just mostly listen to) TV shows I’ve missed during the week.  I’m about 10 weeks ahead on the Sunday comic.  Here’s a close-up of me finishing the inking on an upcoming April Barney Google and Snuffy Smith Sunday page. It’s a fun gag that features lots of rock-hopping!  For inking, I use brushes, Higgins Black Magic india ink, Pigma Micron Pens and other pens, as well.

Barney Google Fer Pres’dent!

Cartoonist Billy DeBeck was a big celebrity in his day and in 1923 he met President Warren Harding in Seattle, Washington. In the comic strip, I found that Barney Google ran for President of the United States twice, in 1928 and 1932!
