Bodacious Thanks To The Tennessee Press Association!

Readers of this blog may remember in July when I mentioned I received a First Place Award from the Tennessee Press Association.  I received this for a series of newspaper public service ads about wildfire prevention that I created featuring Snuffy Smith and family.  The series was titled Snuff Out Wildfires Before They Start.  If you missed that blog post you can read about it here.  I finally got a photo of the award so I thought I would share it with you.  Thank you again to the Knoxville News-Sentinel, the Tennessee Press Association and King Features Syndicate for partnering with me on this very worthwhile project.  I truly appreciate the Tennessee Press Association recognizing me with this honor.

Snuffy Smith Ads Recognized With First Place Award

The first place award.

A series of public service ads created by King Features’ Barney Google and Snuffy Smith cartoonist John Rose won First Place in the Tennessee Press Association’s Ideas Contest for Best Use of Humor in an Ad.  The awards ceremony took place at the annual convention of the Tennessee Press Association in Franklin, Tennessee on July 13, 2018.

Public Service Ad Campaign: Snuff Out Wildfires Before They Start

I’d like to share with you a special Snuffy Smith project that I have been working on this past winter that is very special to my heart. I live in Virginia, but since I was a child, my family has often vacationed in Eastern Tennessee, mostly in Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg. My wife and I have continued that tradition with our daughters. In addition to vacationing there, for the last four years, I have been a guest of the City Of Pigeon Forge for Wilderness Wildlife Week, giving Snuffy Smith Chalk Talks and Cartooning For Kids workshops each year during that week.
